What the calculator does
It adds a number of days to an entry date. There are two ways countries and authorities count, and the tool lets you choose. If the arrival day is day 1, the last day is the entry date plus the number of days minus one. If the day after arrival is day 1, the last day is the entry date plus the number of days.
The tool cannot know which method applies to your visa or entry rule. We have not verified a list of countries for either method, so the tool does not guess. Your passport stamp, e-visa, permit or the authority that admitted you decides.
Worked example
Entry date: 10 Jan 2027, days allowed: 30 Arrival day is day 1: 10 Jan + 29 days = 8 Feb 2027 Day after arrival is day 1: 10 Jan + 30 days = 9 Feb 2027 As of 1 Feb 2027, days until the last day: first method: 7 second method: 8
The two methods differ by exactly one day, which is why it is worth checking which one your document uses. Leap years are handled by the calendar, so a stay that crosses 29 February 2028 counts that day as an ordinary day.
Visa validity and length of stay are different
A visa can be valid for entry for months while the length of each stay is shorter, and some entry permissions have no visa at all. This tool works from the length of stay you are given on entry. Do not enter the date your visa stops being valid unless your document says that is your last day of stay.
For rules that are specific to Schengen, use the Schengen 90/180 calculator, which follows a different rule (a rolling 180-day period).
Before you rely on the result
- Compare the result with the date or number of days on your stamp, e-visa or permit.
- If they differ, the document wins.
- If you are close to the last day, contact the immigration authority or your embassy about extensions or leaving. Do not assume one is available.
Frequently asked questions
Does the day I arrive count as day 1?
It depends on the rule that applies to you. The tool offers both methods. Check your stamp or permit. For the Schengen rule specifically, the EU Borders Code treats the date of entry as the first day of stay.
Is my visa expiry date the last day I can stay?
Not necessarily. Visa validity and the permitted length of each stay are separate. Use the length of stay on your entry stamp or permit.
Does the calculator handle leap years?
Yes. It counts real calendar days, so 29 February is counted as one day in a leap year.
Can I extend my stay?
This tool cannot tell you. Whether an extension exists depends on the country and your status. Ask the immigration authority or your embassy.
Which countries does this cover?
None specifically. It is a date calculator that follows the number of days you enter, and it does not contain country rules.
